News items are standard WordPress posts. They appear in Latest News and can be pulled through to the homepage when the homepage news option is enabled.
Create a News Item #
- In the left menu, go to Posts > Add New.
- Add the news title at the top of the page.
- Add the main news content in the editor. You can add text, links, images, documents, and embedded media in the same way as normal page content. See ‘Blocks’ category for information on each block type.
- Add a Featured image from the panel on the right. This image is used on news listing pages and homepage news cards.
- Select a Category if your site uses news categories.
- Click Publish when the item is ready to go live.
Edit an Existing News Item #
- In the left menu, go to Posts > All Posts.
- Use the search box if needed, then click the title of the news item you want to edit.
- Update the title, content, category, featured image, or publish date as needed.
- Click Update to save the changes.
Drafts and Scheduling #
Use Save draft if the news item is not ready for the public website.
To schedule a news item, click the date and time next to Publish, choose a future date, then confirm the schedule. WordPress will publish it automatically at that time.
Homepage News #
If the homepage is set to show news, it uses the latest 4 published news items automatically.
Tips #
- Use clear titles so visitors can understand the news item from the listing page. Keep these short and descriptive.
- Keep featured images landscape where possible, as they crop more cleanly in news cards.
- Avoid changing the permalink after a news item has been shared, unless you also update any links to it.
